Securing the Extraordinary African Chambers (EAC) archives

The Extraordinary African Chambers (EAC), which convicted the former Chadian dictator Hissène Habré of crimes against humanity and war crimes, has completed its work. With the end of the trial, a decision regarding their archives needs to be taken. swisspeace is currently in discussion with different stakeholders to support the securing of the EAC archives and organised together with the Swiss Embassy in Dakar an evaluation mission with a Malian and a Swiss archivist in Dakar in May 2017. The evaluation mission and discussion was mandated and financed by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA. A second evaluation mission to N’Djamena is foreseen.
