Archives and Dealing with the Past in Colombia

Workshops in Colombia with the Colombian Center for Historical Memory, March 2017

In the framework of the mandate “Archives & Dealing with the Past”, financed by the Swiss FDFA, swisspeace organized two workshops in Bogota together with the Colombian Center for Historical Memory (link) (CNMH). The first workshop was tailored for the Colombian National Police on international experiences of Police Archives and Dealing with the Past. The second workshop was organized for actors involved in the planning and preparations for the Special Jurisdiction for Peace with view to planning their records management.

Antonio Gonzalez Quintana, a member of the Advisory Board of the "Archives and Dealing with the Past" project, who accompanied us for this visit, gave an interview to the CNMH on the importance of archives for the Colombian Dealing with the Past process. Read the interview here.

In addition, in the framework of a project to support the Colombian Attorney General’s Office to assess the situation of the case files relevant for transitional justice, together with the CNMH, swisspeace conducted visits to archives in Bogota, Medellin, San Jose de Guaviare, Cucuta and Popayan between February and June 2017.
