The potential of archives in dealing with the past in Zimbabwe
In February 2017 swisspeace visited Zimbabwe upon request of the Human Security Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The goal of the visit was to assess and discuss with civil society and other key actors the role and potential of documentation and archives in a dealing with the past process in Zimbabwe.
Jointly with FDFA’s Human Security Advisor, the swisspeace team met with a number of organizations and held two reflection meetings on the topic of “Archives, Peace and Reconciliation” with civil society in Bulawayo and in Harare. Catherine Kennedy, independent consultant and former director of the NGO ‘South African History Archives’ accompanied both meetings as expert.
