Preservation of Nuclear Claims Tribunals’ records
On November 13, The Marshall Island Journal published an article about the efforts to preserve the records of the Nuclear Claims Tribunal of the Marshall Islands.
Since early 2015, swisspeace is administering the grant of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to preserve the records of the Marshall Islands Nuclear Claims Tribunal. In the scope of this grant, Certified Archivist Dr. Trudy Peterson and Swiss digital Archivist Andreas Nef are providing advice and training to the persons in charge of the Nuclear Claims Tribunal in Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands in the view to preserve the tribunal’s records. The documents are currently being digitized by the Tribunal’s staff. Discussions have begun with the Swiss Federal Archives on an agreement by which it will provide permanent storage of the Tribunal records. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016.
